Dallas — Dak Prescott won the day before taking a single snap during Sunday's season opener.
Just hours before Sunday's road game against the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys inked Prescott to a new four-year contract extension worth $240 million. The new deal makes the Cowboys quarterback the highest paid player in NFL history.
Per ESPN, Prescott's new deal includes $231 million guaranteed.
Throughout the entire offseason, the football world questioned would 2024 be Dak’s final season in Dallas. That question has now been answered. Entering his ninth season, Prescott can focus all his attention on returning the Cowboys to The Super Bowl, a place they haven’t been in nearly three decades.
"That's what motivates me on being here, just to be the quarterback that does it, that wins it," Prescott said on Thursday. "I don't think that winning it any other place would be the same as winning it here."
Prescott is coming off one of his best seasons as a Pro. In 2023, he passed for 4,516 yards (third highest of his career), threw for 36 touchdowns (second highest of his career), and committed only 9 interceptions. Prescott finished second in NFL MVP voting last season behind Lamar Jackson.
If Prescott can play out the length of his new contract, he will surpass the legendary Troy Aikman as the longest tenured quarterback in Cowboys team history.
