While speaking to Merit TV’s Chief Political Analyst Lyndsay Keith, Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says he’s confident the key swing state can call a winner on election night.
"One of the things we did this year with SB 189, all the early votes and all the early absentee ballots that come in by this weekend, all of them have to be tabulated and reported no later than 8pm on election night," Raffensperger said. "Well, that's probably going to be 70 to 75 percent of the total votes cast you're going to see reported, at our website, sos@ga.gov no later than eight o'clock one hour after the polls close. So we think that's really a tremendous confidence builder."
"Before the end of the night we are telling the counties this has to be done and they're all committed to getting it done," Raffensperger said." So that's a great thing. So you'll have a pretty good idea of what Georgia looks like."
Georgia is among eight key swing states that will likely decide the presidential election.
Georgia has seen a historic early voting turnout with nearly 70% of the state’s registered voters already casting their vote, making day of ballot counting much easier. The state is also using new technology that is speeding up the process.
Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Former President Donald Trump have visited Georgia several times in recent weeks working to sway undecided voters.
Raffensperger spoke about his confidence in the state’s election integrity hoping to ease voter’s concerns following a contentious 2020 election which included a phone call from then-President Trump asking Raffensperger to find him “11,780 votes” to ensure he won the state.
