Arlington, Texas — The Saints marched into Arlington, Texas and made themselves right at home, handing The Cowboys a humbling 44 – 16 loss.
New Orleans have now scored 91 points in their first two games of the season. Could this be deja vu for The Saints? In 2009, New Orleans opened the season with 93 points scored. They went on to win Super Bowl XLIV that year.
Meanwhile Sunday’s loss for Dallas snaps their 16-game home winning streak during the regular season.
The Saints biggest offseason acquisition could be offensive play caller, Klint Kubiak. His new-look offense kept The Cowboys defense off balance all game long.
New Orleans scored touchdowns on their first six offensive possessions. Heading into the half, The Saints held an authoritative 35 – 16 lead. The 35 points tied Dallas’ franchise record for most points allowed in the first half.
Saints running back, Alvin Kamara scored four touchdowns. He finished the day with 115 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards.
Saints quarterback, Derek Carr threw for 243 yards and produced three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).
During Week 1 of the NFL season, the Cowboys defense received a lot of praise for how they dominated the Cleveland Browns. Dallas produced six sacks and two interceptions last week. During the first half against Cleveland, the Dallas defense limited the Browns to only 54 yards of offense and one first down.
The Cowboys defense came nowhere close to duplicating that performance on Sunday. Dallas did not force New Orleans to punt until nearly halfway through the fourth quarter.
Offensively, The Cowboys were able to move the ball. They produced 353 yards from scrimmage. But they struggled to finish drives, settling for field goals. Wideout CeeDee Lamb was the only player to touch the end zone for Dallas. The remainder of the Cowboys' points came from kicker, Brandon Aubrey (4/4 on field goals).
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott completed 27 for 39 passes for 293 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Next Sunday, The Cowboys will host a hungry Baltimore Ravens team still looking for their first win of the season.
The Saints return home next Sunday to face their second NFC East opponent in as many weeks - the Philadelphia Eagles.
